A least‐squares mixed finite element method for linear elasticity, based on a stress‐displacement formulation, is investigated in terms of computational efficiency. For the stress approximation quadratic Raviart‐Thomas elements are used and these are coupled with the quadratic nonconforming finite element spaces of Fortin and Soulie for approximating the displacement. The local evaluation of the least‐squares functional serves as an a posteriori error estimator to be used in an adaptive refinement algorithm. We present computational results for a benchmark test problem of planar elasticity including nearly incompressible material parameters in order to verify the effectiveness of our adaptive strategy. For comparison, conforming quadratic finite elements are also used for the displacement approximation showing convergence orders similar to the nonconforming case, which are, however, not independent of the Lamé parameters. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This paper focuses on the low-order nonconforming rectangular and quadrilateral finite elements approximation of incompressible flow.Beyond the previous research works,we propose a general strategy to construct the basis functions.Under several specific constraints,the optimal error estimates are obtained,i.e.,the first order accuracy of the velocities in H1-norm and the pressure in L2-norm,as well as the second order accuracy of the velocities in L2-norm.Besides,we clarify the differences between rectangular and quadrilateral finite element approximation.In addition,we give several examples to verify the validity of our error estimates.  相似文献

Discontinuous Stable Elements for the Incompressible Flow   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4  
In this paper, we derive a discontinuous Galerkin finite element formulation for the Stokes equations and a group of stable elements associated with the formulation. We prove that these elements satisfy the new inf–sup condition and can be used to solve incompressible flow problems. Associated with these stable elements, optimal error estimates for the approximation of both velocity and pressure in L 2 norm are obtained for the Stokes problems, as well as an optimal error estimate for the approximation of velocity in a mesh dependent norm.  相似文献

We introduce a low order finite element method for three dimensional elasticity problems. We extend Kouhia-Stenberg element [12] by using two nonconforming components and one conforming component, adding stabilizing terms to the associated bilinear form to ensure the discrete Korn's inequality. Using the second Strang's lemma, we show that our scheme has optimal convergence rates in $L^2$ and piecewise $H^1$-norms even when Poisson ratio $\nu$ approaches $1/2$. Even though some efforts have been made to design a low order method for three dimensional problems in [11,16], their method uses some higher degree basis functions. Our scheme is the first true low order method. We provide three numerical examples which support our analysis. We compute two examples having analytic solutions. We observe the optimal $L^2$ and $H^1$ errors for many different choices of Poisson ratios including the nearly incompressible cases. In the last example, we simulate the driven cavity problem. Our scheme shows non-locking phenomena for the driven cavity problems also.  相似文献

An adaptive nonconforming finite element method is developed and analyzed that provides an error reduction due to the refinement process and thus guarantees convergence of the nonconforming finite element approximations. The analysis is carried out for the lowest order Crouzeix-Raviart elements and leads to the linear convergence of an appropriate adaptive nonconforming finite element algorithm with respect to the number of refinement levels. Important tools in the convergence proof are a discrete local efficiency and a quasi-orthogonality property. The proof does neither require regularity of the solution nor uses duality arguments. Regular assumption of finite element meshes is a basic condition of most analysis offinite element approximations both for conventional conforming elements and nonconform-ing elements.The aim of this paper is to present a novel approach of dealing with theapproximation of a four-degree nonconforming finite element for the second order ellipticproblems on the anisotropic meshes.The optimal error estimates of energy norm and L~2-norm without the regular assumption or quasi-uniform assumption are obtained based onsome new special features of this element discovered herein.Numerical results are givento demonstrate validity of our theoretical analysis.  相似文献

In this paper we prove a double order for the convergence of eigenfrequencies in fluid-structure vibration problems. We improve estimates given recently for compressible and incompressible fluids. To do this, we extend classical results on finite element spectral approximation to nonconforming methods for noncompact operators.

In this paper, we define a new nonconforming quadrilateral finite element based on the nonconforming rotated Q1 element by enforcing a constraint on each element, which has only three degrees of freedom. We investigate the consistency, approximation, superclose property, discrete Green's function and superconvergence of this element. Moreover, we propose a new postprocessing technique and apply it to this element. It is proved that the postprocessed discrete solution is superconvergent under a mild assumption on the mesh.  相似文献
